Richard Dalton

Governor

The Reverend Richard L. Dalton, MDiv, is a dedicated genealogist and speaker whose passion for family history began at just eight years old. Driven by early curiosity, he interviewed all four of his grandparents and wrote letters to their siblings. He even corresponded with Ansearchin’ News in Tennessee to uncover his Whitehorn roots. A  cornerstone of his journey was his paternal grandmother, Domi, who mapped out their family tree entirely from memory, instilling in him a deep appreciation for oral history.

While his maternal grandmother always maintained they descended from the Pilgrims, she lacked specific names, leaving behind challenging brick walls. In 2013, years after her passing, Rev. Dalton successfully broke through those barriers. He discovered six Mayflower passengers, allowing him to proudly share their stories and join the Nevada Mayflower Society.

Today, Rev. Dalton is the first to officially prove multiple ancestral lines on both sides of his family. He holds membership in ten lineage societies and is actively preparing several more applications. Over the past seven years, he has shared his extensive expertise through presentations for the Nevada State Genealogical Society and the Genealogy Lab at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC). His lectures cover diverse topics, including Irish immigrant research, USA westward migration, Quaker history, and the War of 1812. Rev. Dalton’s enduring mission remains clear: to continuously learn the true stories of our ancestors and give them a lasting voice.
